IMA Riyadh Chapter Members,
I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and engaging with many of you in Riyadh during my 8-day, 5-city, 4-country strategic visit to our Middle East region during the latter part of January. I especially appreciate the hospitality and inspiration to advance the profession from IMA Riyadh Chapter President Mr. Hassan Abdulrahman Al Bahes and his dedicated board of directors. Dedicated, focused and passionate volunteers are at the core of IMA’s story of growth, service and community, and your chapter is an exemplar in our global community.
My visit in Riyadh included meetings with several large corporations, as well as a presentation at Alfaisal University on the topic of making the transition to an oil-based economy to a knowledge-based one, attended by more than 270 attendees including 60 women. I spoke on the importance of innovation to drive market relevance and differentiation, as well as the value of the CMA® credential in building the necessary broad-based skill set required to advance to senior finance and accounting positions, including CFO. Today’s CFO team requires an interconnected mix of skills in finance, accounting, operations, technology, strategy, governance and leadership. While in Riyadh, I also discussed implementation plans for a recently signed agreement with PwC to become an approved CMA review-course provider in Saudi Arabia, UAE and Jordan.
IMA is fully committed to working with its three local chapters in KSA, including Riyadh, to advance the profession of management accounting and the CMA program. We truly believe the CMA will enrich careers, organizations and societal interests of long term diversified economic growth.
To further demonstrate IMA’s commitment to the region, please attend our 4th Middle East Conference April 13-14 in Riyadh, in partnership with the Saudi Organization for Certified Public Accountants, or, SOCPA (visit www.imamiddleeastconference.org for registration details). The theme of this major event is The Techno-Finance Era: Today’s Driver of Change, featuring a keynote address by Ben Mulling, CMA, CPA, CITP, and IMA’s Global Chairman of the Board.
